Greendale – Tree City USA
Have you noticed those signs at the entrance to Greendale stating we are a Tree City USA? This program provides guidance to help cities manage and expand their public trees in a responsible way. Greendale achieved Tree City USA status by meeting four standards of responsible urban tree care: having a tree board or department, having a community tree ordinance, spending at least $2 per resident on urban forestry and celebrating Arbor Day. We are able to do this thanks to the support of residents who help water and mulch the trees planted along the street in front of their home. City trees increase home values, reduce storm water runoff, and provide cooling shade to our residents.
We’ve just submitted our Tree City USA recertification and we invite all residents to join the Forestry Advisory Committee volunteers in keeping Greendale green for years to come!
